Jared is an expert in complex litigation and appellate work.  He has represented some of New Zealand's largest organisations and has appeared as counsel in the Privy Council and Supreme Court of New Zealand on some of New Zealand's leading cases.  He regularly appears as counsel in the Court of Appeal and High Court.   

​Jared regularly litigates all forms of commercial disputes including professional negligence, contract, relationship property and company disputes.

​Jared is a recognised leader in complex trust and fiduciary litigation and has acted in relation to New Zealand's most complex disputes including Kain v Hutton, Chirnside v Faye, Re Burnett Mt Cook Station Chartiable Trust, and The Great Christchurch Buildings Trust v Church Property Trustees (the Christchurch Cathedral) and Pangani Properties Limited v Lloyd & Nevill.  He has been a presenter or member of the organising committee for the NZLS Trusts Conference for the last ten years.  He is a member of the Canterbury-Westland Trust Committee and in 2016 was appointed by the Minister of Justice as one of the experts on the Trust Law Reform reference group.

Jared is also one of New Zealand's leading public law litigators.  He has a strong track record of providing strategic advice on all aspects of public law litigation and has acted on some of New Zealand's leading judicial review decisions including litigation over electricity regulation, emergency planning legislation for earthquake recovery, the land use recovery plan, Treaty of Waitangi/Iwi litigation, and the Christchurch Cathedral.

​Jared was previously the National Managing Partner of Wynn Williams and its senior litigation partner.  He is recognised in the 2018, 2017, and 2016 Chambers and Partners Asia Pacific Directory as a Leader in his field:  Christchurch based Jared Ormsby is characterised by peers as "a very experienced, pragmatic, and wise litigation practitioner.  Jared was the 2017 New Zealand Law Awards' Crowe Horwath Managing Partner of the Year.
